Scythe Kit Schröckenfux Hard Steel (Hartstahl) Scythe – All-rounder for fine and coarse vegetation on uneven terrain
This scythe kit is for anyone looking for a scythe for mixed vegetation – for finer grasses as well as more robust growth.
The Schröckenfux hard steel (Hartstahl) scythe has a slightly upturned point. This helps you avoid getting caught when mowing on uneven terrain.
Hard steel holds the cutting edge longer, but is harder to peen than soft steel.
What’s included in the kit
- Schröckenfux hard steel (Hartstahl) scythe, 65 cm (all-rounder blade with slightly raised point)
- Schröckenfux – Austrian snath made from high-quality ash wood
- Zische coarse whetstone (corundum, grit 150, 23 cm)
- Zische fine whetstone Silicar Rotmarke (grit 400, 26 cm)
- Schröckenfux whetstone holder made of plastic with metal attachment (whetstone holder)
Why two whetstones?
The coarse stone (150) is designed for more material removal – for example, when the cutting edge has small chips or you need to remove material quickly.
The fine stone (400) is for sharpening during mowing, when you want to refresh a thinly peened cutting edge as gently as possible.

Do you need suitable peening tools for your set?
A scythe only mows easily when the cutting edge is truly sharp – we recommend our hammer peening kit with a Picard hammer for beginners and our Schröckenfux kit (peening anvil with support table + peening hammer) for more experienced users.
