Tim Brinkmann has worked with the TreeXtractor and shares where the tool really proves itself — from the home garden to professional landscape work. We wanted to know: how does the tree puller perform when it comes to removing small trees, shrubs, and invasive woody plants root and all — without heavy machinery and without regrowth?
The TreeXtractor makes light work of removing plants with their roots — quickly and cleanly. It lets you work precisely, without tearing up the soil or damaging neighboring plants — grip at the stem, pull, done.

Tim, you’ve had the TreeXtractor in your hands. What’s your first impression of the handling and build quality?
The TreeXtractor sits well in the hand. Not too heavy, not too light. That’s important to me with a tool like this — you need to feel right away that it can transfer force and is sturdy enough.
My impression is that the product is really well-made. It feels robust, cleanly finished, and built for long-term use.
Where do you see the biggest benefits of the TreeXtractor?
The biggest benefit is anywhere you need to remove individual plants or woody growth in a targeted way. In existing plantings, along path edges, in beds between valuable perennials or shrubs — wherever a machine or excavator would do more harm than good.
One often underestimated point is the soil itself: with the TreeXtractor you don’t compact anything, you work only where it’s needed. That’s crucial on slopes, on sensitive soils, or in naturalistic plantings. And it saves follow-up work — no torn-up surfaces, no reseeding, no rebuilding the soil structure.
What specific use cases come to mind — and why is the TreeXtractor a better choice than a spade?
Classic candidates are all the plants that root deeply and resprout after being cut: bramble stumps, suckers from black locust or box elder — and especially invasive species like tree of heaven (Ailanthus) or staghorn sumac. These species resprout from every root fragment left behind. If you just cut them down, you’ll have twice the problem next year.
With the TreeXtractor, you grip directly at the stem and pull the entire root out with it. For many of these species, that’s the only method that works long-term. With a spade you often have to dig again and again — and with larger root masses, you can’t get through at all. With the TreeXtractor, one lever is enough.
Who would you recommend the TreeXtractor for?
For professional landscape gardeners, tree nurseries, municipalities, conservation projects — and of course for private property owners with larger plots.
Wherever young trees, shrubs, or unwanted growth need to be removed regularly, the TreeXtractor is a real help.
Your verdict?
My clear verdict: for large-scale work, you’ll still need heavy equipment. But for everything else, the TreeXtractor belongs in every toolkit — whether in your own garden or in professional use.
An investment that pays for itself after just a few uses. Clear recommendation from me.
